EMMA RICHARDSON | CRUISIN’ FOR A BRUISIN’ | EXHIBITION NOW OPEN 02.02.12-12.02.12

Photo: Hannah Lake

We are very excited to announce that the first solo exhibition of work by Emma Richardson, the bassist and vocalist in Band Of Skulls, is now open! Entitled Cruisin’ For A Bruisin’, the exhibition includes paintings and drawings created in response to music by the Southampton three-piece.

As with all of our projects, we strive to unite the worlds of art and music, and this exhibition is no exception. Music is a key part of Richardson’s life, and she acknowledges a strong link between her musical and her artistic outputs. The relationship between the two mediums is a reciprocal marriage of creativity, with the music informing and inspiring her paintings, and the paintings lending the music a visual identity.

The exhibition coincides with the release of Band Of Skulls second, much-anticipated album, Sweet Sour, later this month. For more information on Band Of Skulls, and to pre-order their forthcoming album Sweet Sour, click here.

Huge thanks go to our partners on this show, the LONDONEWCASTLE PROJECT SPACE, Peroni Nasto Azzurro and The Kraken Rum.

We are also excited to be part of this month’s First Thursdays, and will be open until 9pm tonight.

EMMA RICHARDSON / BAND OF SKULLS: EXHIBITION ANNOUNCED

We are very excited to present the first solo exhibition of work by Emma Richardson, the bassist and vocalist in Band Of Skulls, which will take place in London next February. Entitled Crusin’ For A Brusin’, the exhibition will consist of a series of paintings created in response to music by the Southampton three-piece, including two groups of works corresponding to the first two albums by Band Of Skulls.

The exhibition also coincides with the release of Band Of Skulls second, much-anticipated album, Sweet Sour, in February.  The exhibition marks another artistic highlight for Richardson, in a year that looks set to see the band’s meteoric rise continue. We are particularly excited to be partnering with the LONDONEWCASTLE PROJECT SPACE on this exhibition.

NEW EXHIBITION ‘WHEN THE NIGHT FALLS’ OPENING SOON

15th September – 9th October

We are very excited to be joining forces with The Vinyl Factory to present the inaugural exhibition at their new gallery in the heart of London’s Chelsea; the first solo show by acclaimed photographers Warren Du Preez & Nick Thornton Jones, entitled When The Night Falls.

As renowned artistic collaborators, who have worked with the likes of Alexander McQueen, Bjork, Issey Miyake and Russell Maliphant, this exhibition stems from an ongoing creative partnership with the musician and curator James Lavelle, whom the pair worked with on the artwork for the recent UNKLE album, and also on our ‘Daydreaming with… James Lavelle‘ exhibition at Haunch of Venison last year.

Widely recognised as masters of their artform, Du Preez and Thornton Jones’ stunning new series of artworks questions accepted notions of beauty and the female form. An evocative series, combining classicism and surrealism in an esoteric way, When The Night Falls presents the pair’s “dreams in reality” by exploring and working within unique artistic processes that show photography in a new light.

For a list of available work and prices, please email info@daydreamingwith.com

The Vinyl Factory gallery: 93 Walton Street, London SW3 2HP.
Private View on Wednesday 14 September 7-9pm
.
The exhibition runs Thursday 15 September – Sunday 9 October.
Opening Times: Tues-Sat 11am-7pm, Sunday 12-6pm.
Entrance is free.

DOUG FOSTER AND JONATHAN GLAZER ANNOUNCED FOR DAYDREAMING WITH… ST MICHAEL’S

Following the phenomenal success of 2010’s inaugural Daydreaming with… James Lavelle, which took place at Haunch of Venison last August, Daydreaming with… is excited to announce its first partnership with The Gaymers Camden Crawl, presenting a unique collaboration – Daydreaming with… St Michael’s, at St Michael’s Church in Camden, London, from 27 April – 5 May.
For this exhibition, James Lavelle (UNKLE) has collaborated with two of today’s most exciting visual
artists, Doug Foster and Jonathan Glazer, resulting in two equally outstanding and original video installations. Using music created by UNKLE and Simon Fisher Turner, Lavelle has created an outstanding response to the extraordinary setting of St Michael’s Church. Inhabiting the church for one week, these breathtaking installations will encourage visitors to experience both music and art in unusual and unexpected surroundings.
Doug Foster’s digital film installation, The Heretics’ Gate, 2010, takes it inspiration
from Dante’s Inferno, the first part of his epic poem the Divine Comedy. A twenty foot
high, arched screen and a thirty foot long reflecting pool, are cleverly combined to
deliver a mesmerizing and strangely ethereal vision of hell at the central focus point of
the church’s imposing gothic architecture.
Renowned Director Jonathan Glazer, who first collaborated with UNKLE on the 1999
award winning and legendary music video ‘Rabbit in Your Headlights’, and has worked
with some of the world’s most influential musicians over the years, will present the
breath-taking film Red Clay. First shown at Haunch of Venison last August, the film has
been re-configured in response to the architecture of St Michael’s church, which lends
the film a hauntingly visceral sentiment when viewed in this new context.

Daydreaming with… St Michael’s is open to the public from Weds 27 April – Thurs 5 May, every day from 12 – 6pm. Entry is free.

Jonathan Glazer: Last Tango in Compton

If you’re not already familiar with the work of Jonathan Glazer, Daydreaming with… collaborator and award-winning (read, awesome) film, commercials and music video director, then keep reading! Glazer is the genius behind the Sony Bravia’s paint-splattered advert, and a long time collaborator with James Lavelle, having worked on the breathtaking video for UNKLE’s ‘Rabbit In Your Headlights.’

We absolutely LOVE Last Tango in Compton, the latest commercial from Glazer created for Volkswagon. Shot in North London, the ad features a specifically choreographed dance performed to Roc C’s ‘Don’t Stop’ by two of the world’s leading Tango dancers, Gasper Godoy and Manuela Rossi.
